Our Orthotists

The London Orthotic Consultancy has ten fully-qualified clinicians who have a vast amount of experience in the field of orthotics, cranial remoulding therapy, scoliosis, chest deformities, rehabilitation and posture management. This allows the clinic to effectively treat and manage a wide range of conditions.

All of our clinicians are fully-qualified professionals and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Our orthotists and prosthetists are all members of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO) while our Schroth Best Practice certified physiotherapist is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). All of our clinicians adhere to a strict code of conduct and ethics as laid down by their respective professional bodies and the HCPC.

Saeed Hamid

Saeed Hamid

Saeed qualified as an Orthotist in 1990. He was Senior Orthotist at Queen Mary's Hospital, London where he was involved in all aspects of Orthotic Management of adults and children. He has undergone extensive training in the orthotic treatment of Plagiocephaly using cranial remoulding orthoses.

Sam Walmsley

Sam Walmsley

Sam qualified in 2001 with a degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics from Salford University. After graduating he took up a post as orthotist at Basingstoke NHS trust where he received post graduate training in paediatric orthotics. He later joined the team at Queen Mary's Hospital, London and developed wider skills which included Adult and Paediatric Neuro rehabilitation and complex foot and ankle orthotics. He is also a fully qualified Vabene posture therapist.

Jo Drake

Jo Drake

Jo Drake

Jo qualified in 1998 with a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Salford University. After graduating she took up a post as Prosthetist at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. She later joined the Rehabilitation team at Queen Mary's Hospital as Senior Prosthetist and was heavily involved with clinical governance and establishment of best practice prescription guidelines.

Sally Hews

Sally Hews

Sally Hews

Sally qualified as an Orthotist and Prosthetist in 2003. She has worked both in the private sector and for the NHS. She has extensive experience in cranial remoulding therapy for the treatment of Positional Plagiocephaly. She is also a specialist in Lower Limb Biomechanics and in the design of custom made Orthoses using the Parotec CADCAM system .In 2017 Sally was certificated in Schroth Best Practice for the bracing treatment of scoliosis.

Alan Hews, senior orthotist

Alan Hews

Alan Hews

Alan qualified in 2003 with an honours degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Salford University. From 2003-2013 worked within the South Buckinghamshire NHS Trust and ended up running three clinics: Paediatric, Orthopaedic and Diabetic Feet.

Specialised Skills & Interests:

  • Post SDR rehabilitation working closely with The Portland Hospital
  • Lower limb bio-mechanics and bespoke foot orthotics
  • Providing orthotic services to patients at the Cromwell and New Victoria Hospitals
  • Trained in Parotec and Captivia 3D scanners

 

Deborah Turnbull

Deborah Turnbull

Deborah joined our Scoliosis team full time in 2017. She has a BSc both in Physiotherapy and Social Sciences and worked for a decade for the NHS at Ealing Hospital and then in the community rehab team in Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham community services. Her specialisation is Schroth physiotherapy and she was certified in the Katrina Schroth original method in 2007 and in Best Practice Schroth in 2015. Prior to joining LOC Deborah ran her own company, ScoliosisUK Limited.

Deborah has co-authored with Dr Weiss a number of peer reviewed articles in the area of the conservative treatment for Scoliosis and other spinal deformities.

Anna Courtney

Anna Courtney

Anna Courtney

Anna qualified from The University of Strathclyde in 2014 with a first class honours degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics. She has since worked in Haiti volunteering at a rehabilitation clinic and also within a busy London NHS Trust.

She now works closely with Elaine Owen in the Paediatric OSKAR clinic and was certificated in Schroth Best Practice for the bracing treatment of scoliosis (Gensingen brace) in 2018. She is also involved with academic work, currently having 3 publications to her name and working on more. Her latest publication with Elaine Owen will be exhibited in Chicago, March 2020.

George Coles

George Coles

George Coles

George qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Salford University in 2015 with a first class honours. Prior to joining LOC in March 2019 he has worked at Queen Mary’s hospital and King’s College hospital managing complex clinics including inpatients and outpatients. As soon as George joined us, he travelled to Germany to receive training from Dr Weiss, and he is now certificated in Schroth Best Practice for the bracing treatment of Scoliosis. He is the youngest person in the world to have achieved this qualification.

Jarrod Cahir

Jarrod Cahir

Jarrod joined LOC as a senior orthotist in 2019. He has a Masters in Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics.  Prior to joining LOC, Jarrod was advanced prosthetist/orthotist for the Central Australian Health Service leading a multi-disciplinary team at the Royal Darwin and Alice Springs Hospitals. In 2016 he received Alice Springs Town Council Mayor’s “Champion” Award, for Outstanding Services to Disability.

In his spare time Jarrod likes competing in marathons, triathlons and scuba diving.

John Turner

John Turner

John is a very experienced orthotist with over 25 years of practice in both adult and paediatric settings. He has been recruited to head up our expanding Manchester clinic. Prior to joining LOC John has worked for a number of leading orthotic companies in the UK including Blatchford, Steeper and Trulife. John is a keen triathlete.
