Orthotics clinic in Belfast

Located at PhysioWorksNI on Gilnahirk Road in East Belfast, our Belfast clinic is led by Anna Courtney, Clinical Lead and Senior Orthotist MBAPO, and Catherine Hendy, BSc (Hons), BAPO. Both are highly experienced, HCPC registered orthotists who specialise in evidence-based treatment for children and adults.

Every orthosis is custom made at our headquarters, designed to fit you precisely and support better outcomes in day-to-day life.

Our Belfast clinic is open for pre-booked appointments. Before committing to a face-to-face appointment, we encourage all patients to book an initial online orthotic consultation with us first.

Treatments available

At our Belfast clinic, we support babies, children and adults with a wide range of conditions affecting movement, posture and skeletal development. Our team provides high-quality, bespoke orthotic care tailored to each person’s needs, including:

LOC Scoliosis Brace: our custom-made LOC® Scoliosis Brace offers three-dimensional, non-surgical curve management following a full orthotic assessment, with treatment tailored to the individual
pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum and rib flaring: using custom braces to help improve chest shape through non-surgical treatment
cerebral palsy: helping to improve stability, mobility and alignment with tailored lower limb bracing and insoles. This can help make walking and day-to-day movement feel more supported and comfortable
spina bifida: supporting posture and mobility with custom orthoses designed to improve comfort and confidence in daily life
hypermobility:helping to manage joint instability and reduce pain with supportive bracing and insoles
stroke: supporting walking and movement with specialist orthotic treatment tailored to each person’s needs
post-polio syndrome: improving support and walking pattern with custom-designed orthoses to make movement feel more comfortable
multiple sclerosis: enhancing mobility and confidence through lightweight bracing designed around changing needs
positional plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome): using our lightweight, ventilated LOCband Lite to help improve head shape during early development

What to expect at your LOC Belfast appointment

At your Belfast appointment, your orthotist will carry out an orthotic assessment to understand your condition, your needs and your treatment goals. The orthotic assessment may be informed by your medical history, as well as a physical orthotic examination, and where appropriate, 3D scanning or taking measurements.

Your orthotist will explain the treatment options that may be suitable for you and answer any questions you have. If a bespoke orthosis is recommended and you decide to go ahead, we will take the information and measurements needed for the next stage of your bracing treatment.

Please note that assessments and review appointments take place in Belfast. Brace fittings and final adjustments take place at our Kingston upon Thames clinic or our Manchester clinic in England, where we have access to our workshop facilities and specialist equipment.

HSE Funding

Some of our patients at LOC Belfast have received funding from the HSE for their treatment. While we cannot guarantee this or exactly which treatments HSE will fund, we are able to receive funding of this kind.

Please note that the patient is responsible for ensuring full and timely payment for their treatment and braces, regardless of HSE funding. If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Orthotic treatment is provided following full orthotic assessment and is tailored to individual needs. Outcomes vary depending on diagnosis, growth, compliance and orthotic presentation.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Anna worked with my son for 5 yrs, providing and adjusting the 2 back braces he needed as he grew. He is now 18 and has finished growing. While bracing was tough it maintained and slightly corrected my son’s curve, preventing the need for surgery.  I’m sure Anna’s skill was instrumental in controlling my son’s curve as he went through a period of significant growth.  Anna always listened to my son and did what she could to make the brace more comfortable with padding additions and replacement padding.  Booking appointments to fit with school holidays was generally possible.  I have no hesitation with recommending Anna to other parents who need to go on this journey.

At 3 years old our son underwent a major surgery in hope that he would walk.

Six months on and he was still unable to stand independently, even in the orthotics he was wearing, we were feeling deflated. Many physios had mentioned to us LOC and encouraged us to meet Sam.

This was one of the best decisions we have ever made for our son. Within days of Sam producing new AFO’s and custom shoes my son was taking his first steps alone. The standard of orthotics produced were clearly above anything we had before, both via NHS routes or other orthotics providers we used. We were blown away!

As a parent there is nothing more you can want than the best for your children. We have been on a long journey in the short 6 years of his life, met many professionals and tried many things. There are but a few that have made the world of difference and by far I can say that LOC has.

The level of understanding of our sons condition and abilities, together with advanced technology, has come together to fine tune a pair of AFOs and shoes that have given him the optimum level of support and balance to enable the progression we wish for.

Sam and his wonderful team, including Beverly and Magda, have been beyond kind, friendly and patient with us and having seen the interactions with other families whilst waiting for our appointments I can see this is not an experience exclusive to us.

Thank you to you all, we are so grateful to you for giving the gift of walking to our son, for us as parents it’s what we could only wish for.

I only wish I had known about the LOC years ago when I first started using an AFO. It could have made a significant difference to my mobility much earlier.
From my very first assessment, I was extremely impressed by how thorough and professional the whole session with the Professor was. He took the time to properly understand my difficulties rather than simply looking at the AFO I was wearing and accepting that it was suitable.
Prof Forghany explained in detail what was happening with my gait and, importantly, how my existing AFO was affecting the way I walked. He was able to identify problems that I hadn't previously understood and explained them to me in a way that was easy to understand.
What gave me the most confidence was that I felt they were looking at the whole picture rather than simply trying to provide me with another piece of equipment. They were interested in how my leg was functioning, how I was walking, the difficulties I was experiencing and how an AFO and bespoke footwear could be designed or adjusted to work with my individual needs.
The initial assessment was incredibly thorough, and I came away feeling that, for the first time in a long while, someone really understood the problems I was having with my mobility.
The knowledge, expertise and attention to detail shown by Prof Forghany and his team have been exceptional. I genuinely believe that finding the LOC has given me a better understanding of my gait and how the right orthotic support can make such an important difference.
If, like me, you have been using an AFO for years and feel that it isn't quite right, or that your walking could be improved, I would strongly recommend speaking to the team at the LOC.
My only regret is that I didn't discover them sooner.

Had a video call within 48 hours and explained my son has plagiocaphaly and spoke about my anxieties, was taken seriously and invited to LOC in Kingston for a face to face appointment. Receptionist was so friendly and welcoming! Saw mr Saaed Hamid who was brilliant, took measurements and luckily told me my son didn’t need any treatment- didn’t push anything just facts, even took a scan to confirm and put my mind at ease.
