Located at Litfield House Medical Centre in Clifton, our Bristol clinic is led by Sam Walmsley, LOC Director and Senior Orthotist MBAPO. Sam is a highly experienced, HCPC registered orthotist who specialises in evidence-based treatment for children and adults.

Expert orthotic care

We provide expert orthotic care for babies, children and adults across the South West and South Wales. Our personalised, evidence-based treatment covers a wide range of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, with a particular focus on lower limb orthotics. We also offer non-surgical treatment for chest wall conditions such as pectus carinatum, pectus excavatum and rib flaring.

Orthoses are custom made at our headquarters using the latest orthotic technology, ensuring a precise fit and support better clinical outcome.

Our Bristol clinic is located in Litfield House, a Grade II listed building in the heart of Clifton. Appointments are available by booking in advance. We recommend starting with an initial video consultation so we can understand your needs and guide you on the best next steps.

Treatments available

At our Bristol clinic, we support babies, children and adults with a wide range of conditions affecting movement, posture and skeletal development. Our team provides high-quality, bespoke orthotic care tailored to each person’s needs, including:

• cerebral palsy: helping to improve stability, mobility and alignment with tailored lower limb bracing and insoles. This can help make walking and day-to-day movement feel more supported and comfortable
• spina bifida: supporting posture and mobility with custom orthoses designed to improve comfort and confidence in daily life
• hypermobility: helping to manage joint instability and reduce pain with supportive bracing and insoles
• stroke:supporting walking and movement with specialist orthotic treatment tailored to each person’s needs
• post-polio syndrome: improving support and walking pattern with custom-designed orthoses to make movement feel more comfortable
• multiple sclerosis: enhancing mobility and confidence through lightweight bracing designed around changing needs
• pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum and rib flaring: using custom braces to help improve chest shape through non-surgical treatment
• club foot: supporting foot and ankle alignment with custom-made orthoses to help improve comfort, mobility and day-to-day function

We also provide:

• custom-made insoles: to support foot alignment, relieve pressure and improve comfort in daily movement
• custom footwear: tailored to individual needs for optimal fit, support and long-term wearability

What to expect from your appointment

We know it’s not always easy to know what orthotic treatment involves. At your first appointment, we’ll take the time to understand your concerns, how they’re affecting your day-to-day life, and what you’re hoping to achieve.

Your orthotist will carry out a full assessment, which may include a physical examination, scans or a walking (gait) analysis, depending on your needs.

We’ll explain everything clearly and talk you through your options. If you decide to go ahead, we’ll take the necessary measurements for your custom orthosis. You’ll usually return a few weeks later for your fitting, once your device is ready.

Meet you Bristol orthotist

Your assessment will be carried out by Sam Walmsley, MBAPO, LOC Director and Senior Orthotist. With over 20 years of clinical experience, Sam specialises in personalised, non-surgical treatment for a wide range of orthotic needs. He has a particular interest in complex lower limb conditions, paediatric orthotics and pectus deformities, and is known for developing innovative solutions that fit comfortably into everyday life. Sam works closely with each patient to ensure every orthosis is precisely tailored for the best possible outcome, with support from our wider clinical and manufacturing team.
