The Agilik is a smart, powered lower limb orthosis designed to work within a custom made bespoke Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO) and provides dynamic knee support as your child moves.
Unlike traditional orthotics that offer fixed support, Agilik responds in real time. It continuously adjusts to the patient’s unique walking pattern, providing the right amount of assistance exactly when it’s needed.
It is not an exoskeleton that takes over movement or one that is heavy, bulky, and impractical for everyday use. Instead, the Agilik bridges that gap. The smart orthosis unit weighs just 550 grams and supports more natural movement.
The Agilik is designed for children and adults with lower limb weakness that causes an a typical gait pattern, flexed-knee gait, and stiff knee gait. This includes, but is not limited to, patients with:
The can be adapted to support patients across a wide weight range of 20 kg to 125 kg and is adjustable to accommodate your growth or changing needs.
Walking can be exhausting or simply out of reach for children and adults with significant lower limb weakness. Until now, the main options have been either KAFOs (Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses) or powered exoskeletons, both of which come with challenges.
Traditional KAFOs provide stability, often using locked or spring-assisted knee joints, but they don’t actively help with movement, which can make walking feel stiff or awkward.
Exoskeletons are heavy, bulky, and extremely expensive, making them impractical for everyday life.
The Agilik™ device however, offers smart, powered support when you need it and freedom when you don’t.
Unlike passive braces that simply hold the leg in position, Agilik is a lightweight, powered orthosis that actively assists knee movement at the right moments. By helping the knees straighten naturally, it reduces effort, improves posture, and makes walking smoother and easier.
One of our Agilik families was recently featured in BBC coverage, which also mentioned Senior Orthotist Sam Walmsley.
The Agilik uses advanced sensors and joint motors to detect how your knee is moving, including its angle and speed, and the stage of your step (gait phase). It then provides just the right level of support or resistance to:
With a lightweight actuator (550g/1.2 lbs), the Agilik seamlessly integrates into a custom orthotic system, ensuring comfort, flexibility, and real-time adaptability.
Our orthotists use a dedicated app to fine-tune the Agilik for each patient. This allows them to:
The app ensures each patient gets the right support at the right time, guided by real-time data.
The Agilik is evidence-based and features in several published papers. It is currently being trialled and tested in numerous clinical studies.
Early clinical findings suggest that Agilik use can:
The research shows that consistent use, the Agilik can make a real difference helping patients walk more efficiently, build strength, and feel more confident on their feet.
