Helmet Therapy Testimonials
We’ve been treating positional plagiocephaly with our cranial remolding helmets – or orthoses – for over a decade, we call our helmets the LOCband. We are proud to say that all of the babies who have undergone treatment with us, and have adhered to the required wear-time, have achieved a marked improvement in their head shape.
It is not only our results which positively evidence cranial remoulding therapy, a 2015 study, published in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ® (the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons) on 4000 children found that complete correction was achieved in 94.4% of participants.
The LOCband works by allowing the skull to grow in parts which have become flattened by subtly applying subtle pressure on the areas which are prominent. A number of parents have decided to share their success stories to help reassure other of the process, you can read some of their testimonials below or by visiting our Plagiocephaly Case Histories page for longer blog posts and parent stories.
“Great service, my daughter is getting used to her helmet, it seems to me like she is not even realising she is having it on!” – DS
“Thank you to Jo Drake at Kingston who helped our little boy on his LOCband journey. You have been amazing and so chilled out! Very reassuring through the whole process and it was worth every penny and all the perseverance for the results we got!” - HB
“I've been [meaning] to do this for over a year, just tidying through a load of old papers and found the business card given to me by Saeed Hamid, Operations Director when we met him at the offices in Kingston. We had deliberated for sometime about taking our son to have his head checked as it had been really flat on one side but after taking him to physiotherapy once a week it had improved greatly but still noticeable. We were nervous that we would be sold a helmet even if our son didn't need one, the reality was on arrival we were welcomed in and made to feel very comfortable. Some measurements were taken and Saeed Hamid then explained the ranges that they look for with the measurement results and that our son fell in a range that they didn't consider to require a helmet and therefore he recommended us not to buy one. We therefore left feeling relieved that we had looked down this route and extremely impressed by the professional approach taken, I'd highly recommend anyone to take their child here if they have concerns as we were definitely treated fairly!” - JS
“Thank you to Sally Hews at the Kingston clinic for all your hard work and support with our daughter Jessica's LOCband. Jessica's asymmetry reduced from 19mm to 3mm (1.3mm on scan!) during 4 months of treatment. I would highly recommend this for any parent who is unsure about what to do about their child's plagiocephaly. It was the best thing we could have done for our daughter and are so thrilled with the results that were even better than originally predicted.” - CG
“Thanks to Sally and her team!!! Henry was a severe case of plagiocephaly and brachycephaly (out by 19mm) but with the LOC hard work and dedication his head is now in normal range (6mm).” - SH
“Amazing thank you so much for all you did for our son we would have no hesitation recommending you to any other parents concerned about flat head syndrome, the best decision we ever made was to go ahead with the LOCband.” - LK

If you think that your baby’s head might be misshapen, LOC offers a free, no-obligation first consultation to assess the shape of your baby’s head and if treatment is necessary. You can also upload photos to our online flat head diagnosis form and one of our clinicians will get back to you within 24 hours with their professional opinion on the severity of your baby’s head shape.
If your baby has mild asymmetry, we may not necessarily recommend helmet therapy but instead advise you on repositioning techniques to correct it naturally.
