Lower Limb Conditions Treated - Adults

The London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC) has considerable experience in providing Orthoses for many different types of adult Neurological and Orthopaedic conditions.

We understand that in many cases the orthosis we provide will enable the patient to be more mobile and independent. Their long term use requires each orthosis to be as comfortable and as functional as possible. Our clinic in Kingston has an onsite manufacturing facility so that fine tuning adjustments can be made quickly and easily. We are also able to repair and renovate old or well used orthotics.

Conditions treated

  • Drop foot - Drop foot can be treated with a multitude of orthoses. However attention to detail in essential as any misalignment of an orthotic could lead to problems in the future.
  • Stroke or CVA - rehabilitation can enable sufferers to regain mobility and independence. We work closely with Neurological physiotherapists to manage and rehab patients.
  • Multiple Sclerosis - MS can affect patients in different ways and their symptoms can fluctuate. It is important that any orthotic prescription takes this into consideration.
  • Polio and Post polio syndrome - have traditionally been treated with heavy leather and metal callipers. LOC has developed a range of hybrid carbon fibre callipers that mimic the fit and comfort of the old metal ones but are much lighter and stronger.
  • Cerebral Palsy - adults have different requirements to paediactric orthotics. Gait, function and mobility are the keys to success. As is treatment in conjunction with Neuro Physiotherapy.
  • Brain Injury – we work alongside case managers and brain injury centres. Our orthotics are designed to enhance rehab programs or manage long term requirements.
  • Spinal injury – LOC designs and manufactures complex orthoses to enable paraplegic patients to stand and take steps. This is always in conjunction with physiotherapy.
  • Osteoarthritis – if surgery is not indicated or desired we can design orthoses to offload or protect joints in the foot and ankle from further deformity and to reduce pain.

There are many different medical conditions that can benefit from orthotic treament including Guillian Barre Syndrome, Peripheral Neuropathy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, Motor Neurone disease and Transverse Myelitis. Because of the breadth and depth of our clinical experience we are ideally suited to help.
