The E-Mag Control & E-Mag Active Orthoses

The Otto Bock E-Mag Control and E-Mag Active Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses (KAFO) are state of the art lower limb orthoses suitable for individuals who have suffered weakness to their lower limbs due to neurological disorders such as Polio, or more commonly now, lower motor neuron lesions such as injuries to the nerves and muscles controlling the leg that can result in paralysis.

Weakness of the muscles supporting the knee and the foot means sufferers do not have enough stability at the knee to allow them to walk safely without the knee collapsing from underneath them.

Before launch of the E-Mag Series by Otto Bock Healthcare orthotic knee joints were only mechanical in nature and users had to lock and unlock their knee joints manually.

Thanks to the combination of electronics and mechanical components, the E-MAG Control & E-Mag Active offers a higher level of safety and mobility, with less energy consumption during everyday activities.

The E-MAG Active:

The E-MAG Active knee joint system locks and unlocks the knee joint during walking. The knee joint is electronically locked during the stance phase (weight bearing) and is unlocked during the swing through phase (non-weight bearing). It therefore facilitates a secure and dynamic gait pattern. Users are able to achieve a near normal physiological gait pattern and require less energy while walking.
