LOCBand help for Little Twin Harry

08-August-2016

Having twins is a double blessing for parents – but sometimes complications associated with multiple births can manifest themselves. When baby Harry’s parents started to suspect that their smallest twin might have flat head syndrome, they struggled to get the help they believed he was in need of.

Happily, they managed to secure a referral to LOC’s plagiocephaly experts, who were able to diagnose Harry and provide him with a special LOCBand helmet, which has made all the difference. Here’s what Mum had to say about her experience with LOC.

“Our twin boys were born on the 1st June 2015 at healthy weights, but they were both breech and so were born by C section. Harry was the smallest of the twins and was the most squashed for the last few months of the pregnancy. When Harry was first born, we didn’t notice that his head was a strange shape, but it became obvious after a few months. We took him to the doctor on numerous occasions but we were told that it would correct itself.

We finally insisted on being referred to a consultant who told us that Harry had plagiocephaly. He recommended we see the London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC). We visited their Harley Street clinic and LOC’s clinician recommended cranial remoulding therapy with a specially made ‘helmet’.

Initially we thought it was a lot of money to spend, but we couldn’t take the risk that Harry’s head shape wouldn’t correct itself naturally. We visited the clinic every few weeks to get the helmet resized and cleaned, and were able to discuss any concerns we had with our Clinician. Harry’s head was also measured at these appointments so we could gauge the improvement at each visit. Harry wore his helmet for 5 months and the shape of his head has improved dramatically. I wouldn’t say it was easy making him wear it every day all day but the outcome was totally worth it!”

We’re thrilled to have been able to help Harry and to see the great results of his treatment. If you are worried about the shape of your baby’s head you can contact LOC to speak to one of our clinicians.
